Transport for NSW regularly confirms your eligibility status for a Gold Opal card. When choosing an option to apply for a Gold Opal card, consider the possibility of changes to your situation which may affect eligibility in the future.

Who can apply?

The Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card is available to Pensioner Concession Card holders, NSW Seniors, ACT Seniors and NSW War Widow/ers*.

If you have one of these cards below you're eligible for the Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card:

*Eligible entitlement card holders must use their physical card as proof of entitlement. Centrelink’s Digital Wallet is accepted as proof of entitlement for Pensioner Concession Card holders.

How to apply

Apply online to order your Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card, if you are a pensioner, NSW Senior, ACT Senior or a NSW War Widow/er Card holder.

Note: ACT Seniors Card numbers must have 9 digits to be valid. If your card has fewer than 9 digits, you will need to apply for a new ACT Seniors MyWay Card at the Council on the Ageing office, an ACT Government Library, or an Access Canberra Shopfront. Please allow up to 7 working days for your new Seniors Myway card to be registered in the system before applying for your Gold Opal card. 

 You can’t get your new Gold Opal card at a retailer although you can apply for one at a Service NSW Centre and we will mail it to your nominated address.

You don’t need a credit card to apply and there is no fee for a Gold Opal card.

Make sure you have your NSW Seniors, ACT Seniors, Pensioner Concession or NSW War Widow/er Card handy to confirm your eligibility. Remember that your Gold Opal card is not transferable and fines may apply for misuse.

Once your eligibility is confirmed your new Gold Opal card will be mailed to you within 7-10 working days.
