Concession travel is now easier for asylum seekers

Since Monday 12 December 2016 it has become easier for eligible asylum seekers to apply for a Gold Opal card and a Transport Concession Entitlement card, giving them easier access to concession travel capped at $2.50 a day* across Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Hunter, Illawarra and Southern Highlands.

Transport for NSW has simplified the eligibility criteria for asylum seekers applying for a transport concession, with applications now done online instead of using the previous paper-based application form.

*Excludes the Sydney Airport Station access fee

How do asylum seekers apply for a Gold Opal Card?

They need to go to an approved asylum seeker support agency, which will check their eligibility and assist them with the online application process.
